About this part

The 06H115105DF oil pump is the complete engine oil pump assembly for the Volkswagen Group EA888 Gen 2 1.8 and 2.0 TSI / TFSI engines, the chain-driven family fitted to the Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Tiguan, CC, Audi A4, A5, A6, Q5 and TT. It is a genuine OEM-quality part, brand new, supplied as one ready-to-fit unit with the chain sprocket, pressure relief valve and suction strainer exactly as the original, for workshops and owners chasing low oil pressure, a whine from the front of the engine or the oil pressure warning that follows a tired pump.

What the pump does, and why it fails

It is the heart of the lubrication circuit. The pump is driven off the timing chain through its own sprocket and draws oil through the pickup strainer in the sump, then feeds the galleries, the crankshaft and the camshaft bearings, the chain tensioner and the turbocharger. On the EA888 Gen 2 the pump also carries the pressure relief valve that protects the circuit when the oil is cold and thick, and it feeds the hydraulic camshaft adjuster, which is the first component to misbehave when delivery pressure falls.

Failure mode one: relief valve and rotor wear. City-driven engines with long oil-change intervals fill the pickup strainer with sludge and the pump runs against a restricted inlet. Output falls first at hot idle: the oil pressure warning flickers at traffic lights, the top end becomes noisy in the first seconds after a cold start, and the camshaft adjuster rattles because it is the furthest component from the pump. As the gears and the relief valve bore wear, pressure drops across the whole rev range and the ECU may store a low oil pressure fault or shut the engine down protectively.

Failure mode two: chain sprocket and drive wear. The pump sprocket is part of the timing chain system. Worn sprocket teeth or a stretched chain make the pump noisy long before it fails outright — the classic whine or growl from the timing cover that rises with engine speed. Running a worn sprocket also accelerates chain stretch, which pushes the tensioner to its limit and can end in a jumped tooth and bent valves.

Why a new assembly, not a repaired one. Cleaning a strainer and shimming a tired relief valve restores neither the rotor clearances nor the sprocket geometry, and the EA888 does not forgive a second low-pressure event. This assembly is supplied brand new with every internal clearance and the drive sprocket as manufactured, ready to bolt in.

Symptoms, diagnosis and installation

• Typical symptoms — red oil pressure warning at hot idle or on deceleration, upper-end rattle in the first seconds after a cold start, a whine or growl from the timing cover that rises with rpm, low oil pressure readings on a mechanical gauge, hydraulic lifter tick, camshaft correlation faults, and in the worst cases rod bearing noise once the engine has been run low.

• Confirm it before ordering — fit a mechanical gauge in place of the pressure switch and compare hot idle and 2000 rpm readings with the workshop specification. Check the oil level and condition first: a strangled pickup by a collapsed strainer or debris mimics a failed pump, and overfilled or aerated oil gives false low readings. Inspect the timing chain for stretch and the tensioner for maximum extension at the same time — the pump sprocket, chain and tensioner wear together and are often replaced as a set on high-mileage engines.

• Installation notes — drain the oil and remove the front sump section to reach the pump. Release the pickup tube, unbolt the pump from the block and lift it off the dowels. Clean both faces, fit the new pump with new seals and O-rings — reusing the pickup tube seal is the most common cause of an air leak that aerates the oil and triggers the same warning you were chasing — and torque the mounting bolts evenly to the published figure. Prime the pump by filling the pickup cavity with clean oil before the first start, refill the engine with the correct grade, crank until pressure builds, then run through a full warm-up and re-check the gauge. Change the oil and filter after the first short run to remove any debris stirred up during the repair, and clear any stored faults.

• Fitment caution — the EA888 was built in three generations and the pumps differ in drive, mounting and pressure control. This 06H115105DF assembly is for the Gen 2 chain-driven 1.8 and 2.0 TSI / TFSI. Confirm the engine code on the vehicle data sticker or by VIN decode, or send us a photo of the old pump before ordering.

Fitment

The 06H115105DF pump is fitted to the EA888 Gen 2 engines — the chain-driven 1.8 and 2.0 TSI / TFSI family with the water-cooled exhaust manifold and hydraulic camshaft adjusters. It supersedes a long run of earlier numbers in the 06H115105 series, so the engine code, not the model name, is the reliable check: confirm yours on the vehicle data sticker, the timing cover label or a VIN decode before ordering. The table below lists the usual applications.

Shipping and packing

Orders leave within one to two working days of cleared payment, packed in a foam-lined box so the sprocket, the pickup tube and the sealing faces arrive undamaged. Tracking is emailed when the parcel is handed to the carrier. Customs charges, where they apply, are the buyer’s responsibility.

Condition & warranty

Brand new, twelve months warranty against manufacturing defects covering the pump as supplied. The warranty does not cover damage from oil starvation caused by a blocked pickup or wrong oil grade, from a timing chain or tensioner that was not replaced when worn, or from incorrect installation torque. If a part arrives faulty, send us photos and the fault scan before returning anything.

Wholesale

Tiered pricing for 1 pc, 5 pcs and 20 pcs is shown below. Workshops and resellers servicing EA888 engines should ask for a combined quote — we price mixed orders of oil pumps, timing chain kits, tensioners and seals together.
