The Polo 6R paddle shift steering wheel is the new genuine multifunction wheel for the PQ25 Polo — black leather rim with the chrome trim ring across the spokes, gloss black lower insert, multifunction button pods on both sides and the DSG shift paddles behind the rim. It is supplied without the airbag: your original airbag and its harness transfer across, which is the normal way these wheels are sold because the airbag is the expensive part and is matched to the car.
What is included, and what is not
Included: the complete wheel with the leather rim, spoke trim, multifunction button pods and the paddle shifters already fitted. Not included: the airbag and its connector, the airbag retaining springs if your old wheel does not have them, the slip ring / clock spring, the centre bolt and the wiring loom for the buttons. Those are reused from the car or ordered separately — tell us what you are fitting it to and we will tell you which of them you need.
Fits which cars
Made for the Polo 6R (2009–2014) and carried over to the 6C facelift (2014–2017), including the GTI versions. The spline and the column are shared across the PQ25 platform, so the wheel also physically fits the Vento and the PQ25 Skoda models, but the airbag shape and the slip ring have to match your car before it is safe — this is not a part to buy by photograph alone. Paddles and buttons need coding
Fitting the wheel is mechanical; making it work is diagnostic. On a car that left the factory without paddles, the steering column electronics has to be coded for tiptronic operation, and the multifunction buttons have to be enabled both in the column module and in the radio so the volume, phone and menu keys talk to the head unit. Cars that already had a multifunction wheel usually need nothing more than a fault-memory clear. Paddles only do anything on a DSG car — on a manual they are decoration. Remote coding is a paid service quoted separately if you have a laptop and a suitable interface.
Airbag safety — read this before you start
The airbag is a pyrotechnic device. Disconnect the battery and wait at least ten minutes before touching the airbag connector, never place the airbag face down on a bench, and never fit an airbag from a different wheel type into this rim — the retaining clips and the deployment path are matched to the wheel. Reuse the original centre bolt only where the factory procedure allows it; where a new bolt is specified, fit a new one and torque it to spec. After assembly, switch on the ignition and check that the airbag lamp goes out and that no crash sensor or driver airbag fault is stored. If you are not confident with airbag work, have a workshop fit it — the labour is an hour and the mistake is not recoverable.
What to check on arrival
Check the rim for marks, press every button and listen for the click, pull each paddle and let it spring back, and confirm the connector pins in the button loom are straight before you fit anything. Keep the packaging until the wheel is on the car and the buttons are working.
